Why Hire a Coach? – Post 385

It has been quite some time since I posted on a regular basis. Hopefully I haven’t lost very many followers these past few months. I just want to take a few moments to explain what has been happening before I get into today’s topic on coaching and why you should have a coach if you want to take your business to the next level.

As most of you know I have a pharmacy consulting business in addition to my marketing endeavors. In order to keep myself marketable in the pharmacy world I found it necessary to continue my education so toward the last half of 2015 I enrolled in an educational program to obtain a certification in medication therapy management. After I completed the program I needed to continue to devote extra time to my pharmacy business. Since there are only so many hours in a day I had to back away a bit from some of my other  pursuits.

On the home front, my daughter is getting married on Sept 17 so I have spent a lot of time in preparation for that event. Thank God for my network marketing business. Even though I have not been able to give it the attention the business deserves, the check continues to come in month after month so it has been a great help with funding this wedding.

I just recently started another venture. Robert Kiyosaki, my virtual mentor, in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad teaches the concept of multiple streams of income. To accomplish this I am starting David Allen Capital of Kentucky and I am looking for someone to head up that sales team (for more info on the opportunity click here). I hope to have it up and running asap.

I also am re-launching my network marketing business as soon as the wedding is over. Last year I hit a plateau in that business and no matter what I tried, I just couldn’t seem to get the momentum started again. The momentum that is necessary to take my business to the next level. Over this past year I have spent considerable time contemplating what’s standing between me and my ultimate business and life goals. No matter how many courses I took or how much personal development I did I just couldn’t seem to get renewed traction.

Have you ever reached a certain level of success but found your business growth hit a plateau? Do you have a great business but not enough time to enjoy your life? This is where having s “personal coach” can make all the difference.

Why are are we so turned off by network marketing opportunities and the friends who offer them?

Have you ever had a friend invite you out to catch up and then enthusiastically delve into an “exciting new business new opportunity” they can’t wait to share? And you get blindsided with an invitation to join a new multi-level marketing program they’ve signed up for and want you to become a part of their team. Wha?!?

“Hey!” you might think, “I thought this was about catching up on our lives! Not about creating a business opportunity!” And you might feel a few ways about that. Most of them not good. You may feel you’ve been misled, unless the new business is something you are excited about. I mean, it’s an MLM (multi level marketing) for goodness sake. And that’s just not usually seen as cool.

Let’s be honest, MLM’s have had a stigma attached to them as being at worst a type of “pyramid scheme” (which they aren’t), or at least something less than a “real business” until some brilliant marketing genius started calling it “Network Marketing” a few years ago. I personally know people that have reached high levels of success and done incredibly well financially in MLM’s and they never get the street cred as being in a “real business.” What’s up that that?

Why is that? Where does this stigma come from?

As someone who owns a ” brick and mortar business” and knows how tough that can be (overhead, payroll, surprise expenses, support expenses, insurance, taxes, and etc) I wonder: maybe these network marketers are onto something. Since I’m naturally curious, I started asking questions about this and what I found really surprised the heck outta me.

To understand the industry and background I went to Paul Devlin, a respected no-nonsense industry analyst and speaker on the national level. Paul’s style is a “tell it like it is, hold no punches” way of looking at business and people and he’s someone I knew could explain it to me.

“Think of it this way, if I told someone I was the National Sales Manager at a named company they’d be somewhat impressed that I’d reached a certain level of success. I’d probably also be working 70-80 hours a week and never see my four kids. But tell them it’s in network marketing, that I see my kids all the time, have passive income and invariably someone will dismiss it as something bored housewives selling soap.” Indeed it seems there is a stigma even for top guns in the industry like Devlin.

So where did this whole system begin?

Back in the late 19th century, traveling sales folk were called peddlers, or hawkers and traveled around selling products almost door to door. Henry Heinz created an organization of salespeople to sell vegetable products to those that didn’t grow their own, focusing mainly on pickles and tomatoes (in the form of ketchup). In 1868 J.R. Watkins created a multi-tiered structure to his medical products company to sell the end consumers.

The concept: after a product was created, instead of spending millions of dollars on marketing, that money could be paid out in commissions to a personal sales force.

This sales force could earn money by selling goods that either people would normally be purchasing from stores (soap, household goods, etc) or couldn’t get from stores (now think advanced neutraceutcials, vitamins, supplements, skincare, or health/wellness that are using ingredients regarded as safe).

Today? The network marketing industry is a $120-$130 billion dollar industry (Devlin explains that some of the companies are privately held so their sales aren’t public). Some of the longest lasting companies are Amway (a $14 billion dollar company), Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Shaklee, and Herbalife.

According to Devlin, some companies pay commissions up to 58% to their sales team and that’s money which traditionally companies spent on marketing or getting their products on the shelves of stores so consumers can conveniently pick them up. Most networking marketing company ship directly to the consumers, so there’s no retail store to speak of and most “distributors” aren’t encouraged to keep a large back stock (anymore). With the advancement of the internet, the network marketing business has also seen a rise. In 2008 when the economy struggled and major distributors of household products saw decreases of up to 30%, network marketing companies grew.

There’s an interesting inverse relationship with the economy according to Devlin. “When the economy is down, more people join networking marketing companies. When the economy is booming, more people buy goods from network marketing companies.

Where did the stigma of networking marketing being embarrassing begin?

Devlin points out that in the 1970’s the MLM’s started to really see a big rise in market share and the large distributors were not happy. Think of all those companies that put your household items on the shelves at major retailers, they became unhappy. They were losing market share. And those were the ones sponsoring large portions of the media at that time.

Comedian Johnny Carson among others, became infamous for poking fun at Amway on “The Tonight Show” and with so many viewers, the stigma not only stuck but became a type of cultural meme. People going door to door, bored housewives selling facials or makeup, or friends trying to talk friends into buying soap. The poking fun worked, and the stigma stuck.

After being publicly humiliated, distributors for many network marketing companies at that time fell into the underground covert method of recruitment and weren’t always upfront about why they wanted to meet with a friend or colleague. While their aim and goal might have been true, their methods may have been lacking.

The “hey, let’s get together for coffee and catch up” routine of getting people to a meeting happened more at that time. “I want you to meet a friend of mine.” Or “Let’s set up a job interview.” People who thought they were being interviewed for a job were actually being introduced to a professional networker in a network marketing company. (This happened to me many times, so I know of what I speak!).

Devlin says that it’s changing for the most part; he thinks in major part due to better training. More access to information. And with the success stories being real, based on the hard work and effort of people we know and trust. Someone like prosperity guru Randy Gage, author of the new book Mad Genius (read a terrific GMP review here), who is also heavily involved in network marketing, has been a huge advocate of both the industry and companies that allow people to grow and get over their blocks to success.

As we see friends earning thousands, tens of thousands, and even hundreds of thousands of dollars of income through organizations they’ve built from the ground up through network marketing we are more apt to believe the dream.

“It’s odd,” Paul Devlin recounts, “In Japan it’s considered rude or insulting if you don’t bring a new business opportunity to your friends and family first. For many years the Japanese were leaders in the networking marketing industry for this reason. But in the U.S., it’s been the opposite. People can almost be offended or insulted if someone brings them a business venture, explains they want them on their team, or asks them to consider an opportunity.”

What about the long-held belief that network marketing is a pyramid scheme?

The rumblings of “pyramid schemes” began in the 1970’s when MLM’s where still be joked about as “bored housewives”, or “get rich quick” schemes where someone at the top of the chain earns money from everyone below them, as all the money flows up, regardless of the amount of effortless “work” someone puts in. In fact, Amway was taken to court by the FTC and in 1978 the Supreme Court found that the business practices were sound and a “legitimate business opportunity” and there was no pyramid scheme.

“Pyramids don’t actually exist in network marketing,” says Devlin.“The person that is at the top of an organization is an entrepreneur and may be able to create a passive income based on work they’ve put into building up that organization, but it’s just like owning any other type of business. You create a network. Instead of employees, you have an entire organization of volunteers that are either motivated or unmotivated, depending on your leadership. Some distributors will flourish if they treat their organization like a business and work on it as a business. Those that have the “lottery mentality” or expect the “get rich quick” thing to happen are usually sorely disappointed and don’t last long. It’s a business. It’s your business. And it can be very successful if you treat it that way.”

Getting Started Right

Getting involved in this industry was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Not because of anything other than trends. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned over my life, it is wealth is created when the right people get in front of the right trend.

Wealth is created when the right people get in front of the right trend at the right time and go for it.

The thing for me is in 2007 I read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki for the first time. And in that book Robert introduced me to the concept of leveraged income.

Leveraged income?

I had never really understood the concept of leveraged income before.

Just like Robert was told by his poor dad a kid, I was taught the 40 year plan. I was told to go to school and get good grades. To get a job with a good company, to work for 40 years then retire. I had never been told that there was any other way.

That book led me on a journey to discover exactly what is a better way for an average person like me.

Lori and I looked at a lot of different things. We looked into rental real estate rental and we looked at flipping houses as an option. There were two problems with real estate investing and flipping houses. First of all we didn’t have the cash needed. We follow the Dave Ramsey principle of Financial Peace, living with no debt, so leveraging investment real estate using loans was not an option. And secondly I was working 60 to 80 hours per week and just didn’t have the time that it would take.

Franchises were out, Franchises can cost anywhere form $10,000 to, in case of a McDonald’s franchise, over a million dollars. On top of that when you become a franchise owner, in most cases you just bought yourself a job. Again, no time, no money. And I was looking for a way out of long hours so why would I want to buy myself a job, that’s what I was looking to get out of? So I kept looking.

Then in 2009 I came across an audio CD by Robert called The Business of the 21st Century where he introduced a concept where an average person like me could move into the entrepreneurial world. To gain financial and time freedom. That CD changed my life. It started me on a quest to find a company that could get me the success I wanted.

I looked at 3 to 4 dozen different opportunities over the next four years. I was looking for something that had products that I could stand behind as a pharmacist. I was looking for something that I felt could appeal to the most people. And I was looking for a company that had a leadership team that had a vision and had the experience. I ended up joining 14 different companies before I finally found my home.

All the companies I got involved with were great companies, they had excellent products but I was not there at the right time and I didn’t have the right mentor. And ultimately, I did not have any success.

Before I found the right company some other things happened in my life that sidetracked my career in a major way. In 2011 the national chain drug store that I worked for started eliminating older pharmacists and started one by one replacing them with new graduates that had higher degrees and where paying them less money. I should have seen it coming, three weeks before Christmas my life changed drastically. I became one of those statistics. I lost my job.

A few days later I met Dr. Wallach in person for the first time. I had spoken to him over the phone a few times over the previous couple years about health issues some friends and family members were suffering from and he showed me how to resolve those issues without using pharmaceuticals, but I had never met him in person.

I got to meet several top income earners from his company that were traveling with him that day also. Andre Vaughn, Dale Johnson, Brandy Brogdon. I also met the company president, Bill Andrioli and I was very impressed with all of them and their message but the time wasn’t right for me.

I was more concerned with finding another pharmacy job. I just knew that any day I would find another job. I needed the income that being a pharmacist provided and I knew it would take a bit of time to build a business up to that level of income so finding another pharmacist job was top priority.

What I didn’t know was the economy had changed drastically and that there was no longer a pharmacist shortage. Instead there was a surplus of pharmacists. In fact it didn’t take me a few days, a few weeks or even a few months to find another position. It took me 2 years.

Well, a year into my unemployment I met Dr. Wallach a second time. He took me to lunch and I told him about my circumstances. After much conversation and with his promise to help me and to connect me with the right people to help get my business off the ground I decided to join him. Once I joined him I soon found that I had joined the right company at the right time.

For the first time in my life I was in front of a trend. The company, even though they had been in business for 15 years at that point, was starting to build some momentum. Over my first 2 years the company went from a 10 million dollar company to a 100 million dollar company.

I was in the right place at the right time.

I was able to create enough income to keep from losing my home. I built up enough of a team that I was able to earn the car bonus and bought myself a Cadillac CTS, the Dave Ramsey way, without debt.

Same persons, same skills, same mindset that I’ve always had but because of timing, instead of failing miserably like I had in the 14 other companies, I was able to buy that car and more importantly, save my home. It was because of the timing.

So I just can’t stress enough, with Dr Wallach’s 90 for life message and his story, because of the incredible catalog of hundreds of products that I could stand behind as a pharmacist, because of the leadership team he introduced me to, people with vision have an unbelievable opportunity. Dr Wallach’s message is so strong, it ultimately creates success.

This is what we’re doing. This is what we’re about. The number one reason for success is because of what is called a category creator.

In this industry there’s only been a category creator’s. A L Williams was one. A L Williams turned the insurance industry on its ear. Everybody was buying whole life, whole life, whole life and A L Williams introduced his common sense message, to buy term insurance and invest the rest. They were on the front of Time Magazine. They just totally turned the insurance industry upside-down.

Excel Communications was another company. Once phone service deregulated, there was a lot of people that did extremely well with Excel communications. And I can give you some other examples but the bottom line is we have products that people are going to be buying every day no matter what.

If you really can wrap your mind around that concept. We have products in nine of the fastest growing categories. It’s beyond anything else, any one else is doing and is a very very unique concept in the marketplace. If you can’t do it here don’t ever, ever, ever attempt to do this industry, with any other company, ever.

Again if you can NOT do this, forget it. I don’t care if they’re selling dollar bills for a penny. Don’t do it. I mean just forget it.

See we have to get wrapped around that ourselves. We’re not just another deal. my gosh we are different and you have to feel that. You have to see that. I feel sorry for people that don’t see this. Good people sometimes just don’t see it but you have to be willing to tell people, “look, you’re totally 100% missing the story here” and we’re going to get into more of that as we continue through this training.

So my question is folks, do you want to fail or do you want to succeed?

I tell people, I don’t know a lot about a lot of things. I mean, everyone of you, you’ve got a talent. You’ve got skills. You’ve got things that you can do that I don’t have a clue about. I mean, my sponsor, Brandy was a cosmetician. She knows all about skin care and makeup. I don’t know the first thing about cosmetics. Another one of our leaders, Kelly, she was a winning high school basketball coach. I couldn’t coach basketball. I don’t know a thing about the fundamentals of that sport.

Many of you know how to play a musical instrument. Maybe you play a piano. Maybe it’s the drums? I don’t know anything about playing the drums. But I could if I really wanted to. I could probably learn. I mean I tried to play the accordion when I was young. I took several years of lessons and I hated every second of every lesson. The only reason I was doing it was because my mom wanted me to play. I think she had visions of me being on the Lawrence Welk show some day. If you don’t know who Lawrence Welk was ask your parents or grandparents.

The point is, I had no desire to do it.

So, what I have seen over the years. After reading dozens of books on human performance and leadership, Thousands of hours of audio cassettes, CD’s and videos and really studying this industry.

What I’m going to share with you over the next few lessons are the eight steps that people have to follow, to be able to create success. Okay, I’m going to show you eight steps and a few concepts. And if you can take these three concepts internalized them and if you’re brand new, follow these eight steps, you will succeed.

Long term.

It will happen for you.

Might not happen <snap> like that. It didn’t happen <snap> like that for me. I mean my first three or four years in this industry I wanted to quit.


I couldn’t stand it. People are so, I mean what’s wrong with people? Why do they want to work for somebody else when they can have residual income?

You know?

We all go through all that. But the bottom line is I get it. After spending 2015 traveling from coast to coast to meet with million dollar income earners; Spending hours upon hours in training programs, Reading dozens of books and attending hours of continuing education. I continuously asked, “What are the six or seven things? What is it that’s really going to make a difference? What separates the ones who do it from the ones who don’t do it. And what message do brand new people need to hear when they first joined this company? What they NEED to hear?”

That’s why I put together my Quick Start training. For that purpose

Now here’s the reality of this business. Fifty percent of the people that join any company, Peak the day they join.

That’s the height of their career.

Do you know anybody like that?

That was the height of their career? It’s like they make a great business decision and then they just, they just, they lose it. They join and they don’t do squat. They don’t do a thing. They don’t even TRY to do anything.

Then 20% never get plugged in. They never sell themselves on what’s going on here. They tried to convince a few friends and family members to join and then they quit. Within 90 days. That’s the truth.

So we’re talking about seven out of ten people are duds. If you can’t handle that then this industry is not for you. Because I can tell you right now, all the frustration in the world comes because we can not get people to do that what we want them to do. And when I learned that the only persons actions that I can control are my own, everything changed. I don’t worry about somebody else. What they can do, what they can’t do. It doesn’t matter. I don’t care. It just doesn’t matter.

Don’t deal with thumb suckers. You’re either going to buy their story or they are going to buy yours.

Now 3% create financial success. 27% get a residual income vision of what’s possible. And probably a lot of you right now would probably fall in that category. But the reason people that really never get the vision and they start to understand that they never really get it, is because they never really decide to go for it.

And I’m going to go off track here for a minute but the most common denominator that I have seen in this business, is when people get in and really go for it. I mean just go for it, they are the ones that create in this industry what’s called momentum. Momentum is like a freight train. It’s absolutely true.

When you listen to people give there testimony and they talk about when they got started. They contacted, this is what they always says, they contacted “everybody I knew.” They didn’t dilly dally around.

When I first got started in 2013 I decided in January that I was going to enroll 20 people in 30 days. It was constant nonstop going for it because I understood that you have to.

It’s like an airplane. Does an airplane get off the ground if you throttle up to 20% power?

What about 50% power?

No it takes 100% full throttle to get that plane off the ground and flying and that’s the same thing here. The hardest part is getting it off the ground. And that’s the key. I didn’t hit my goal of 20 but by the end of that 30 days I had enrolled 18 people and within a couple months that 18 had grown to the point that I achieved the car bonus and was able to save my home.

When you come in you’ve got to hit it. I mean you’ve got to go for it. You cannot onesie, twosie this business.

Most people go out and they say, “well I’m going to talk to three or four people today.” And they talk to three or four and they hand out three or four cards. And then they go home and they’re just staring at their email. Waiting to see if somebody came to their website. That’s what I did my first three or four years and I want to tell you, that’s insane.

You can be a smart person but that activity is insane, It will not work in this business.

One of my early mentors, Dale Johnson, may he rest in peace, once told me that when he started he made a commitment that he would not go home each day until he had shown the business presentation to at least 5 people that day. It didn’t matter whether they joined or not. he made the commitment that he would get 5 sets of eyes on the business presentation each day. He went on to become a multi million dollar income earner in this business.

You know, people ask me questions about, “well Keith, what percent of the people that go to your website and watched . . .” I don’t know. I don’t care. I just get as much out there as possible. Every week. Because I have enough people going in the top of the funnel there’s going to be few fall out the bottom. And I don’t care about the ones that are stuck in the funnel.

Some people have decision constipation. They can’t make one.

I mean, it’s like, I don’t have time to try to . . .

I refuse.

I absolutely refuse.

I’m looking for people that are looking for me. And some people say, “well Keith, I just don’t see how you all could have sponsored 18 new people in that 30 day blitz. I’ve been in ten months. I haven’t sponsored 18 in 10 months“…

Because I communicated. I got the story in front of ten to twenty times more people. That’s why. If they didn’t show interest, I scratched them off of my list. I called one time.

“I just wanted to check back with you to see if you had an opportunity to check out the website and to see what you liked best about what you saw.”

—-“Well Keith I haven’t had a chance to watch.”

“Ok, when will you have a chance? When will be a good time? You tell me, when will be a good time for me to follow up with you?”

—-“Well, I probably can see it Saturday afternoon so why don’t you follow up with me Saturday night.”

Ok, Saturday night I follow up, “Hey I just want check back with you and see what you liked best about the video.”

—-“Well Keith, I just still haven’t had a chance to watch.”

“I’ll tell you what. I’m going to go ahead and scratch you off my list for now and I’ll get back to you down the road when I have more time.”

I’m gone. Now, because I didn’t pressure them, I can go back to them again in the future. . .

You see, I have a business to build. You have a business to build and see there’s this whole thing with network marketers where we’re supposed to beg and they’re supposed to stiff arm us. You can’t play that game. That’s not the game.

We’ve got a trend that is going to be a billion dollars in the next few years. With or without us. We don’t have time to sit around trying to get somebody to take a look at the greatest opportunity they’re going to see in their lifetime. If you don’t beg you can go back.

Do you understand that?

If you don’t beg you can always go back. And maybe they’l listen to you better the next time.

So the purpose of this training is to increase your odds for success. I’m not giving tips and ideas. I’m not doing that. I mean I’m not!

My goal is to teach a very specific system. And there’s a difference between learning a tip, learning an idea and learning a system. And there’s three concepts to internalize. And their are eight steps to follow and I’m going to give them to you.

After meeting with all these successful, highly successful people, I could share with you any tip or idea that I want to but instead I’m going to give you the three concepts and the eight steps that I had learned from them that will increase your odds drastically for success.

Now if I do that how many of you will say, “well you know what, maybe I should follow 2 of them.”

Its not optional.

You can’t follow the ones you like.

Failure is not a matter of not knowing what to do, it’s a matter of not doing what you already know to do and I’m going to really lay it all out and I don’t want you to take it personal. But I tell you what, after seeing so many people that have so much potential, but they just cannot get on a road and stay on a road.

Just forget everything you think you know and just follow and have a little bit of faith. That’s probably the thing that just blows my mind more than anything else that I’ve seen in this industry and its the one thing that held me back for so long, so many good people, they don’t really grasp the fact that it’s not them.

It’s about what can be duplicated. It’s not what they can do. It’s about what can be taught and duplicated. This business is not about innovation. It’s not about personality. It’s about what can be duplicated.

It’s a duplication business. If you don’t duplicate. You have no team. And only systems can be duplicated.

Look at McDonald’s folks. The french fry fryers are always on the left. You understand how profound that is? Why? Because that’s the way it can be duplicated.

When I go to Starbucks today they say “welcome to Starbucks. What can we get started for you.” If I go to Starbucks in Georgetown they say “welcome to Starbucks. What can we get started for you.” If I go to Starbucks in Atlanta they say“welcome to Starbucks. What can we get started for you.” In Dallas, go to Starbucks they say “welcome to Starbucks. What can we get started for you.”

Can you imagine the power if a network marketing organization operated that way?

If everybody said, “Hey, I just want to check back with you, see if you had the opportunity to watch the video and see what you liked best.”

But we don’t.

We’re all out there doing different things and so the masses come in, . . and you know what everybody is looking for?

The magic foo foo dust. The magic phrase? The magic thing that’s going to make my phone ring off the hook with people with their credit cards out, waiting to join me. Begging to join me. What is the magic, what am I missing?

You’re not missing anything.

It’s just numbers. It’s just the process. And everybody thinks there’s some kind of magic whatever.

The problem is, and this is another reason I decided to do this. Because there’s a lot of people telling you they’ve got the Magic Fairy Dust, Money Machine Funnel, Do Nothing Get Rich Quick System.

I talked to somebody last week and they spent a bunch of money on some kinda social media course telling people how to do everything with Facebook and Twitter. I want to tell you what, It’s not true. I said let me ask you something. Let me ask you one thing. How big of an organization had they built in network marketing?

“Well they’ve never really done network marketing. They’re a social media expert.”

“Hey Keith, I’m going to take a $500 course on how to be an attraction marker.”

To be an attraction marketer you first must be attractive, you have to have something that is attractive to them, something they want, so your out.

Come on guys. Come on. There’s no foo foo dust.

There’s reasons people make it in this industry and there’s reasons people don’t and if you can get plugged in and get on track and just stay on track it’s just not that difficult.

If you’re brand new and you’re getting started, duplication is the issue and here is the thing. There are eight steps and three concepts and every single person that you bring in can follow these eight steps and three concepts.

6 Steps to Turn Dreams to Reality – Post 378

When the movie “The Secret” first came out many people that watched were under the impression that to achieve whatever one wanted in life all one had to do was want it and success would come. Quickly, however, they learned that it doesn’t quite work that way. Yes, putting the thought out into the universe is the first step but one must also take actions toward achieving what one desires. We all know that wishing for financial success does not create success. If it did the world would be full of millionaires after all how many times have we purchased a lottery ticket then dreamed about what we would do if we won?

Wishing will not bring financial security or success in any endever. But desire with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to achieve then backing those plans with persistence does not recognize failure.

I want to share with you six steps where if you truly desire financial security or any other type of success so much that your desire becomes an obsession, you will have no difficulty convincing yourself that you will acquire it. A mental consciousness that the mind has become so thoroughly saturated with the desire that desire that you can see yourself already in possession of it. These steps are not only essential for achieving financial security but are necessary for the achievement of any definite goal.

The successful application of these six steps do call for sufficient imagination so you can see and understand that success cannot be left to chance, good fortune, and luck. Everyone that has had success in life first did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing, desiring and planning before success came to them.

Every great leader from the dawn of civilization to the present day was a dreamer. If success was not first in your imagination it will never be manifest in your life.

Folks, before I share these six steps I just want to say that never before in the history of America has there been so great an opportunity for practical dreamers as exists right now. The six or so years of economic downturn that we have experienced has reduced everyone to essentially to the same level and a new race is about to be run. The stakes represent huge fortunes which will be accumulated in the next ten years. The rules of the race have changed because we now live in a world that has changed and favors the masses. Those who had little or no opportunity to win under the conditions that existed in the past where fear paralyzed growth and development. Where jobs vanished, where real-estate lost massive value and savings where wiped out for survival.

Those of us in this race are encouraged to know that this changed world is demanding new ideas, new ways of doing things, new leaders, new inventions, new methods of teaching, new methods of marketing, new ideas for moving forward. At the forefront of all this demand for new and better things, there is one quality which you must possess to win the race. That is a definiteness of purpose. The knowledge of what wants to achieve and the burning desire to achieve it.

This economic downturn marked the death of one age and the birth of another. It requires practical dreamers who can and will put their dreams in action. Those dreamers have and always will be the ones the lead us to new frontiers that we never imagined could exist under the old age.

Just think of the real leaders of the world in the past. They harnessed and put into practical use the intangible unseen forces of the unborn opportunities of their dreams and converted those forces into sky-scrapers, cities, factories, automobiles, technologies of every form that makes life more pleasant for us today.

Open mindedness is a necessity today. If you are afraid of new ideas then you are doomed before you start. Never has there been a time more favorable for pioneers than now.

In your quest to achieve success don’t let anyone stifle your dreams. To win big in this new world you have to catch the spirit of the pioneers that built this country. Their dreams have given us everything of value to us today. Their dreams are now the lifeblood of our country and now give us the opportunity to develop and market our talents and abilities.

Columbus dreamed of a new world and staked his life on it.

Henry Ford dreamed of a horseless carriage and went to work with the tools and abilities that he possessed and has now put more vehicles into operation than any man who had ever lived. Because he was not afraid to back his dreams.

Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that could be operated on electricity. He put his dreams into action and even though he failed 10,000 times he stuck with his dreams until he achieved success.

I want you to really think about Marconi. Marconi dreamed of a way to use the intangible forces of the ether. The evidence of his success can be found in every wireless device today. His friends had him arrested and taken to a mental hospital when he told them that he had discovered a way to send messages through the air without using wires like the telegraph used or without any other direct physical means of communication. We couldn’t function today had it not been for his dreams.

“The greatest achievement was, at first, and for a time, but a dream.”

So what are the six steps that I mentioned before that can transmute your desire for financial security into it’s physical equivalent? Like I mentioned these steps can be used for whatever goals you want to achieve but I’m going to put them into terms regarding financial security.

Step 1: You have to fix into your mind the exact amount of money you desire for financial success. It’s not good enough to just say “I want financial success.” You  must be definite about the amount you desire.

Step 2: Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. This is where the law of attraction failed people that saw the movie the Secret. There is no such thing as something for nothing.

Step 3: Establish a definite date when you expect to possess the money you desire for financial security.

Step 4: Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready to put the plan into action or not.

Step 5: Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you desire to acquire, name the time limit for acquiring it, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan you will use to accumulate it.

Step 6: Read your written statement out loud twice each day. Once before you go to bed at night and once when you first wake up in the morning. As you read it, see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.

It is important that you follow these steps exactly. It is especially important that you observe the last step. You might complain that you can’t see yourself actually in possession of the money before you actually have it. If you truly DESIRE it so much that you desire is an obsession, you will have no difficulty convincing yourself that you will have it.

You dreamers of the world, it’s time to wake up and assert yourself. The economic downturn has brought the  opportunity you have been waiting for. It has taught people humility and open-mindedness. The world is filled with abundance of opportunities that the dreamers of the past never knew.

A burning desire to be, and to do is the starting point from which the dreamer must begin. Dreams are not born of indifference, laziness or lack of ambition.

You have been disappointed and have undergone defeat during the economic downturn. You have felt the great heart within you crushed until it bled. Remember that all who succeed in life get off to a bad start and pass through many heartbreaking strategies before they “arrive.” The turning point of those who succeed come at the moment of some crisis through which they are introduced to their other selves.

Remember, Thomas Edison was a telegraph operator that failed many times before being driven to success. Charles Dickens pasted labels on pots. Helen Keller was deaf, mute, and blind. Booker T Washington was born in slavery.

Kindle in your mind the fire of hope, faith, and courage. If you have these states of mind and you apply the six steps I described then everything that you need will come to you when you are ready for it. There is a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it. You are not ready for anything until you believe you can acquire it. No more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity than is required to accept misery and poverty.

Confidence is an outcome of developing many different habits. Here are seven essential habits you need to develop in yourself in order to become a highly confident and successful person.

1. Acting As If

Brian Tracy once said that “confidence is a habit that can be developed by acting as if you already had the confidence you desire to have”. Even though acting as a confident person when you’re shy won’t make you a confident person overnight, it will help you develop an appearance of a confident person which will attract confident people to you.

Here are a few small habits which will make you appear as a person who has the confidence you desire to have:

  • have the right body language (AVOID: crossed arms, sitting in the back of the room, taking as little space as you can, staring at the floor)
  • don’t be hesitant – if you want to do something, do it without hesitation. There is nothing which reveals your low self-confidence more than acting as if you aren’t sure what to do
  • imitate successful and confident people – find a “self-confidence role model” (it can be an actor, businessman, scientist, thought leader etc.) and imitate him or her. Keep in mind that it isn’t about being a fake – simply imitate things which are in harmony with your nature and which make you appear more confident.

2. Unwavering Decision

Every decision a highly confident person makes is an unwavering decision. There is no “IF”, there is only “WHEN” and “HOW”. Since we make decisions every day, it’s one of the most important habits of highly confident people. If you want to achieve something, you have to commit yourself to it. It’s a basic principle of all confident and successful people. Make things happen. No backing off, no giving up!

3. Showing Up

Woody Allen, one of the most successful actors and directors, once said that 80 percent of life is showing up. He explains it further in his interview for the Collider (2008):

“People used to always say to me that they wanted to write a play, they wanted to write a movie, they wanted to write a novel, and the couple of people that did it were 80 percent of the way to having something happen. All the other people struck out without ever getting that pack. They couldn’t do it, that’s why they don’t accomplish a thing, they don’t do the thing, so once you do it, if you actually write your film script, or write your novel, you are more than half way towards something good happening. So that I was say my biggest life lesson that has worked. All others have failed me.”

Learn from Woody Allen’s biggest life lesson: stop talking about things that you want to do and start doing these things. There is no self-confidence (and no success) without showing up.

4. Spending Time with the Right People

Have you ever noticed that rich people and poor people usually don’t hang together? It isn’t because the rich don’t want to do anything with the poor because they’re poor – it’s because poor people exhibit kind of behavior and mentality which the rich don’t relate to.

Can you blame successful people because they don’t want to spend time with people who have completely different views on life?

It’s the same with self-confidence. In school, popular confident kids usually stick together and shy kids are outside of their social circle. Later in life, most people who were shy in school still don’t interact with confident people. As a result, they remain shy for the rest of their lives.

If you want to evolve, your social circle has to evolve with you. Confident people know that if you keep spending time with people who are more confident than you, you’re going to become more confident as well. If you keep spending time with people who are shy, sooner or later they’ll keep you down. Choose the right people to spend your time with.

5. Never-Ending Self-Improvement

Self-confidence and self-improvement go together. Highly confident people became and will remain confident because they decided to start a never-ending self-improvement journey. Learning something new every single day is one of the most crucial habits all confident and successful people have.

When was the last time you learned something new? When was the last time you learned something new which you can use to become a more confident person? Here are a few things which you can learn to help you become a more confident person:

  • improve your conversation and public speaking skills (join a local Toastmasters group)
  • read spiritual books which will help you learn to live in the present and stop caring about opinions of other people
  • improve the quality of your voice
  • start working out and improve your physique (learn how to do the most important core exercises correctly)
  • learn how to eat healthy (read a few books, learn recipes)

6. Taking Responsibility for Everything

Highly confident people never blame anyone for their own mistakes. Every successful person will agree that if you want to learn how to believe in yourself, you have to realize that you are responsible for both your successes and your failures.

People like to do business with people they know and trust. This is why building solid relationships is so important. Relationship-building can take many forms but some elements are essential to all. Let’s take a moment to review some of these essentials that will help you nurture and grow solid relationships within your organization.

Your 30-Second Introduction

Have you upgraded your 30-second introduction lately? If you haven’t revised it in the last twelve months, it’s probably stale. A new introduction can spark energy and enthusiasm—in yourself as well as others. Consider infusing powerful action words like “create,” “design,” “organize,” “generate,” “solve,” and “produce”. Deliver it in front of a mirror or camcorder and see what others see.

A Two-Way Street. What’s in it for them? We often think of what we want to get from relationships. Flip this over and consider what you’re willing to give to your down-line. Do you have knowledge or techniques that will help your down-line be successful? Keep in mind that building relationships is a two-way street, so to speak, that begins with you. Approaching relationships in a giving, proactive mode is an excellent beginning.
Follow up, Follow up, Follow up

The simple act of following up with your customers or business builders will make you stand out with them. To follow-up impactfully, always remember to create a contact management list first. You may start to see growth as you demonstrate an interest in relationship building with your down-line members, and additional growth as they, in turn, start to do the same.

Time and Patience

You might want to think of building business relationships the same way as you would grow a garden. Gardening requires nurturing, resources (water, Bloomin’ Minerals™, sunlight, etc.), and patience. But the results (a bountiful harvest) are worth it. Similarly, developing healthy, productive relationships also requires nurturing (followup) resources (sharing of knowledge) and patience. And the results are definitely worth it!

3 Keys to Greatness – Post 371

Three Keys to Greatness by Jim Rohn

Eight years ago I went into the studio and recorded a 56-minute video for teenagers called “Three Keys to Greatness.” Although my focus was for teenagers, the principles I shared certainly apply to adults as well.
Recently I was asked to list these three keys using a couple sentences for each. Now for your benefit here they are again.
  1. Setting Goals. I call it the view of the future. Most people, including kids, will pay the price if they can see the promise of the future. So we need to help our kids see a well-defined future, so they will be motivated to pay the price today to attain the rewards of tomorrow. Goals help them do this. 
  2. Personal Development. Simply making consistent investments in our self-education and knowledge banks pays major dividends throughout our lives. I suggest having a minimum amount of time set aside for reading books, listening to audiocassettes, attending seminars, keeping a journal and spending time with other successful people. Charlie “Tremendous” Jones says you will be in five years the sum total of the books you read and the people you are around. 
  3. Financial Planning. I call it the 70/30 plan. After receiving your paycheck or paying yourself, set aside 10 percent for saving, 10 percent for investing and 10 percent for giving, and over time this will guarantee financial independence for a teenager.
If a young person, or for that matter an adult, focused on doing these three simple things over a long period of time I believe they will be assured success!

Follow Up – A Key to Your Success – Post 370

Follow Up – A successful first contact, whether in the traditional one-on-one approach (offline) or the one-on-many (online) approach is wasted if you fail to take an important step:

Follow Up.

Sending emails or packages through the mail usually doesn’t get the message across strong enough to your prospects. To achieve any level of success, you have to go the extra mile by making the follow up calls or by picking them up and driving them to a live event.

When following up , you should keep things simple. Answer objections in a calm, confident and professional manner and ALWAYS point to a 3rd party resource tool to get their questions answered. Remember, if your lips are moving, you should be pointing your prospect to a 3rd party tool. This will show them how simple and easy this business is to do, and that they don’t have to be an EXPERT to do this.

And, just because someone says NO to you once, doesn’t mean they’re not interested in you ever contacting them again. Successful people don’t give up that easily.

As always, follow up with a passionate, excited and caring process. This will help you to add new brand partners to your already successful team much easier.

Zig Ziglar on Overcoming Fear

Fear has been correctly identified with the acrostic False Evidence Appearing Real.

The truth is that if we think something is to be feared, that perception becomes the cruelest form of reality.

A second-grade boy was overheard saying, “It’s easy to be brave when you’re not scared.” By the same token, it’s easy to talk about how to overcome fear when you have little to be afraid of. Fear is certainly real for most people and all of us face a fear of something – poverty, divorce, rejection, death, failure, speaking in public, being laughed at, etc.

How do we overcome fear? First we must learn to examine our fears. Example: Giving a speech, which is the number one fear in our country, according to Reader’s Digest. (It’s also a tremendous confidence-builder.) If that’s your fear, ask yourself a few questions. “Why am I afraid to make a speech? Is it because I’m afraid of being rejected? Then why do I think I’ll be rejected?

Do I believe what I’m about to say?

Is my speech worth giving?

Am I proud of the comments I’m about to make?” As you ask yourself these questions, the fear will begin to subside. It subsides because you have explored your subconscious mind with your questions and flushed out some of your fears.

My research indicates that only three people have died while making a speech. Since twelve billion people have lived and only three of them died making a speech, I’d say it’s a fairly safe thing to do.

If you’re a little nervous, consider this: You could lead a mule into a crowded room and he would be so calm that he would almost go to sleep standing up. A thoroughbred in the same situation would be as nervous as a cat.

If you’re a little nervous, just be grateful you’re a thoroughbred – not a mule. So face those inner feelings, stand up and speak up with confidence. When you do, I’ll see you at the top!

  1. Don’t change.  Keep recommending and promoting the things you like as you always have, like your favorite thing to do on weekends, your favorite restaurants, your favorite movies.  I told him that most people do network marketing everyday but they just don’t get paid for it.
  2. Sometime in your lifetime, you have to find four people who feel the same way that you do about this business.  I told him the name of my company and that they have life-changing products that help people feel better and live better.  I told him that he doesn’t have to find all 4 people right away.  Pace yourself!  Find one a month, one a year, one a decade.
  3. And between everyone that you talk to and everyone that they talk to and everyone that they talk to forever and ever and ever, you eventually accumulate about 300 people who use our products on a regular basis and you would earn between $6000 and $7500 per month.  That’s it.  The rest is up to you.  What do you think?
